Earth Day Tampa Bay Festival April 20 at Lowry Park

Earth Day is April 22 and Tampa Bay will be busting out with lots of events to get you on the green bandwagon (see Page 3). In Tampa, the annual Earth Day Tampa Bay festival will take place at the Lowry Park Bandshell from 11 to 4 on Sunday, April 20. This year's theme is Get Out: Enjoy, Explore, Protect with special emphasis on appreciating the natural environment that surrounds us.

Once again, the Tampa Bay Sierra Club is sponsoring this popular festival, along with the City of Tampa and the Tampa Tribune. More than 50 exhibitors will offer products, services and information on natural and organic products, green home and building products and services, conservation and wildlife, arts and crafts, and much more. An exhibit of alternative fuel vehicles will also be on hand.

City and county agencies will offer information on local parks and recreation , and home water and energy conservation. Children’s activity areas will teach kids the importance of things like recycling and conservation through organic crafts and games.

. Live music and entertainment will continue throughout the day at the Lowry Park Bandshell. The feature act, Safira Tribal Fusion, will perform at 3 pm with a variety of instruments from different cultures around the world such as djembe, conga, ocean drums, doumbek, log drums, talking drums, balaphone, bodhran, and flute. Safira Tribal Fusion celebrates the rhythms of the earth and the diversity of various cultures - a fitting tribute to Earth Day! Parson Brown and other acts will also perform.

Admission and parking are free. Lowry Park is located on Sligh Avenue next to the zoo - look for us around the bandshell!
